Workshop: Special Needs Support for Young Children

Early identification and support of developmental delays and behavioral issues is crucial for the health and well-being of young children. This free ECCS workshop will discuss:
- Support programs for young children including Birth to Three and the Early Childhood Consultation Partnership (ECCP)
- Transitioning from Birth to Three to the Southington Public School system; the process and the school system’s preschool program
- Screenings; purpose, process, and outcomes
- Special education history, law, impact on public education and what parents need to know
Speakers include:
- Julie Condit, Early Childhood Consultation Partnership (ECCP) at Wheeler Clinic
- Catharine Goralski, SPS Special Education Coordinator
- Meg Walsh, SPS Director of Pupil Services
This workshop is appropriate for:
- Parents/guardians of children who have already been identified as having special needs, especially those transitioning out of the Birth to Three program or into kindergarten
- Parents/guardians who suspect that their child many need additional services but don’t know where to turn or what their options are
- Childcare providers who want to know more about the services available for the children they care for
- Anyone who wants to understand more about Special Education
